Insta and youtube recommendations

Has anyone noticed that Meta and Alphabet’s recommendations on Instagram and YouTube are insanely accurate? It’s like you are thinking of a topic and you happen to see a feed on the same topic within a day or two. In some cases, it is so exact that even the keywords and phrases match.

*When I say “thinking”, I mean just thinking — no discussions with anyone, nor searching the internet for related topics.

I have noticed this trend since 2023, and after rounds of speculation and discussions with tech folks working on similar concepts, as well as a few neurologists, I started documenting the cases. I have gathered quite a few instances where such observations were noted.

We all know that new-age tech scans our interactions (within apps or on the internet) and recommends content accordingly. But accuracy to the level of matching phrases and keywords — without any prior digital footprint whatsoever — is a little alarming.

If algorithms are this strong, and if this holds true, it indicates that they are predicting a predetermined neural path that one can take, based on the current state and context derived from past interactions. As we scroll, we happen to stumble upon the matching content, giving us that déjà vu moment.
