Watermelons on a Fig Tree

I heard a great story today that seems to relate to all of us.

There’s a shepherd taking a long walk through dry lands, beautiful gardens, and landscapes. As he gets hungry, he looks for food and finds a lovely watermelon. Grateful, he picks it from the delicate branches, eats it, and enjoys its taste. In the afternoon, feeling tired, he searches for shade and discovers a huge peepul tree (ficus/fig). Considering it a perfect spot, he thanks God again and decides to rest under its shade.

While resting, he wonders why God gave a big fruit like a watermelon to a small plant and only small and tiny fruits to the large fig tree. As he thinks, he falls asleep.

Later, a strong wind blows, and small fig fruits start falling around him, some even on his face. He wakes up and thanks God again, saying, “Thank you, God, for your creation and making fig tree bear fig fruits, glad that it was not a watermelon.” 🙂

Sometimes we find ourselves questioning why we face challenging situations in life, much like the shepherd pondering the choices of the creator. We may not always understand that these difficulties could be guiding us towards the best path, and dwelling on them may lead to unnecessary worries.

So, the moral of the story is, when faced with tough times, try to wear a smile, express gratitude to the universe, and keep moving forward. Trust that something positive will eventually work out.
